POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Bus Driver

SUMMARY:
The Bus Driver drives students to and from school on a daily basis in a safe, efficient, and economical manner, and to extracurricular events on a non-regular basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
- To conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip for defects;
- To use established routes and designated bus stops;
- To operate bus on approve time schedule;
- To report bus accidents and student injuries to authorities;
- To instruct riders regarding being responsible passengers;
- To drive with safety of students as first priority;
- To establish favorable working relationships with other drivers, maintenance personnel, teachers, students and principals;
- To demonstrate knowledge of rules/regulations promulgated by local, state and federal authorities;
- To demonstrate knowledge of state laws and local ordinances and;
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalency;
- Meet school bus driver certification requirements;
- Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing;
- Meet state physical examination requirements;
- Meet local or state standards for driving test;
- Meet local or state standards for driver record check;
- Ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students and;
- Ability to operate radio communication when necessary.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of support staff personnel.
