Visual Arts/Digital Design Instructor

The Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School, a regional school serving 220 gifted 11th and 12th grade students from seven high schools in the Shenandoah Valley, will have an opening for a visual arts/digital design instructor beginning July 1, 2017.  SVGS is seeking to enrich our arts and humanities staff to provide our students with rigorous, meaningful and relevant experiences for today’s world.  We are looking for a visual arts instructor who has the passion and drive to develop curriculum which promotes creativity, visual communication, and collaboration.

The instructor will teach courses such as studio art, digital design, art history, and other specialized arts skill courses (i.e. interactive and print design, digital imaging and photography, painting and drawing).  He or she will establish a program of regular exhibits, identify and coordinate adjunct instructors and guest artists, participate in the K-10 outreach program, work closely with other arts and humanities colleagues, and carry out other designated responsibilities necessary to support a successful arts and humanities program at SVGS.

The preferred candidate will possess a Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited university in visual arts or closely related field (required to teach dual-enrollment courses), qualify for a Virginia Teaching License, have at least three years of teaching experience, professional experience in the arts, and knowledge of gifted students. Qualified candidates have competency with technology and interactive media and digital design software such as the Adobe Creative Suite.  More information about SVGS may be found on the school’s web site (www.svgs.k12.va.us).   This is a full-time, 210 day position.  Salary and benefits would be based on the compensation package of Augusta County Schools (www.augusta.k12.va.us).  Applicants must fulfill all requirements for employment with Augusts County Schools.

Interested applicants must complete the Augusta County Schools’ on-line application and send cover letter, résumé, statement of teaching philosophy, and list of references to Lee Ann Whitesell, Director, SVGS, 49 Hornet Road, Fishersville, VA 22939.
