JOB SUMMARY:

The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the 2024-25 School Year.  Position is responsible for instructing students in grades K – 12 enrolled in an acute mental health facility.  Providing direct instruction or co-teaching  elementary, middle school and high school content . Direct instruction supports IEP goals/objectives and overall educational goals of each student.  Position utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and sensory integration strategies, manages special education compliance standards and creates a safe learning environment. An understanding of Social Emotional Learning and Trauma Informed Care and its application is integral to our educational programming.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or related field.  Must be eligible or possess Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement in Special Education.  At least three years of successful teaching experience and previous experience working with children/adolescents with mental health issues, intellectual disabilities and/or autism  preferred.

11-month contract (220 days).
