SUBSTITUTE CLINIC AND RN REQUIREMENTS

 

Thank you for your interest in substitute employment with Staunton City Schools. In order to place you on the approved substitute list, the following documents must be completed and returned to Human Resources as an entire package:

 

  • Completed Support Staff Application.
  • Negative results of a Tuberculin Test taken within the last year. TB tests are at the applicant’s expense and may be administered by a facility of your choice.
  • Completed State and Federal Tax Forms.
  • Copy of Teaching License and/or official college transcripts. Required for long-term substituting.
  • Professional License. Some positions such as School Nurse will require proof of certification/licensure in a specialty area (including EMT/CNA certification).
  • Completed Employment Verification (I-9 form). Staunton City Schools adheres to the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Before you can be employed by the Staunton City Schools, you will have to present valid documentation to establish identity and eligibility.
  • Criminal Background Check Consent Form. The fingerprint/criminal history check must be completed and cleared before an applicant can be considered for any substitute positions within Staunton City Schools.
  • Child Protective Services Central Registry Search. It is the policy of Staunton Schools to conduct a search of the central registry for any “founded cases of child abuse or neglect” through the Child Protective Services on all substitute school employees. HR will provide a notary to witness your signature.
  • Completed Direct Deposit Authorization Form.
  • Completed Certification Page.
  • Completed Acceptable Computer System Use Agreement Form.
  •  Signed Notice to Employees Form-School Board Policy GBEA.

 

Applicants are required to pay a $44.00 fee to cover the cost of the Fingerprint/Criminal History Check and the Child Protective Services Central Registry Search. Payment must be made at the Department of Human Resources prior to or at the Substitute Orientation meeting. Upon payment of the $44.00, the applicant will receive a receipt.

 

You may not work in any school or location until authorized by HR. Completed packets must be submitted in person.

SUBSTITUTE CLINIC/RN TRAINING

 

  • As needed based upon applicants;

 

  • One morning session lasts approximately two hours

  • Review of School Board Policies
  • Safety
  • Do’s and Don’ts of Substitute Teaching

 

SUBSTITUTE RN/CLINIC STAFF PAY

 

SUBSTITUTE RN (including Licensed Nurses, i.e. RN)

 

Daily Rate

 

Degree/RN:                                           $72/day

 

Clinic Assistant:                                     $65/day

(Expected Work Day=8 hours exclusive of a 30 minute meal break)

 

 

SubstituteS shall be employed and paid on a per diem basis without the issuance of an employment contract. Employing a substitute for less than one-half day is strongly discouraged.   For purposes of payment, a substitute teacher must work four and three quarter hours or more (Kronos) to be considered a full day. When there is an early closing due to inclement weather or emergency, a substitute  who was hired for a full day shall be paid for a full day; however, if schools do not open due to inclement weather or emergency, the substitute teacher will not work or be paid. Unless inclement weather or an emergency situation requires a delayed school opening or an early school closing, the substitute  follows School Board Regulation GAA-AR Staff Time Schedules for hours of employment.
